Challenge
Kerry Street Community School has become an ongoing creative partnership, with my role spanning brand application, environmental design, social content and publication production.
The challenge has never been about reinventing the school's identity. It has been about finding thoughtful, practical and engaging ways to bring the existing brand to life across the many places it needs to work, from the school grounds and signage through to social media and its annual publication.
Bringing the Brand to Life
I've developed a range of creative applications for the school, including environmental signage, a custom-designed metal side gate and social media assets.
Each piece needs to balance the school's existing identity with the practical realities of communicating in a busy school environment, creating materials that are welcoming, recognisable and appropriate for the community they serve.
The Annual Yearbook
One of the biggest creative projects I deliver for Kerry Street each year is the school yearbook. From concept and editorial design through to artwork preparation and print production, I manage the project from beginning to end, creating a publication that captures the people, personalities, milestones and memories of each school year.
It's a substantial annual undertaking, bringing together creative direction, publication design, production management, attention to detail and the practical coordination required to get a finished publication successfully into print.
Outcome
The ongoing partnership has allowed the Kerry Street brand to remain consistent while continuing to evolve across a growing range of physical and digital touchpoints.
The annual yearbook has become a particularly meaningful piece of the school's communications, creating a polished record of each year while giving students, families and staff something tangible to keep.
Reflection
I love projects like this because they aren't about creating one beautiful thing and walking away. They're about becoming part of the creative rhythm of an organisation and finding new ways to make the brand useful, engaging and genuinely part of its culture. And, selfishly, I have a real soft spot for a beautifully produced publication. Give me a pile of pages, a deadline and a printer's proof and I'm pretty happy.
