ABOUT THE PROJECT

Challenge

When Alana Herbert decided to run for local government, she was stepping into a competitive campaign environment against candidates with established political profiles and years of community recognition.

With four generations of her family having lived in Belmont, Alana’s connection to the community was deeply personal. She wanted a campaign identity that reflected her genuine commitment to the area while helping her stand out as a fresh, credible and modern voice for local residents.

The challenge was to create a campaign brand that balanced professionalism and confidence with warmth, approachability and a distinctly personal touch.

Brand Strategy

The campaign strategy centred around Alana’s story: her connection to Belmont, her passion for the community and her desire to represent the people who call it home.

Rather than following traditional political branding conventions, we focused on creating an identity that felt more human and engaging. The goal was to move away from generic campaign aesthetics and develop a personal brand that communicated trust, optimism and leadership.

The visual direction was shaped around the idea that strong leadership and feminine energy could coexist, creating a campaign identity that felt confident without losing authenticity.

Creative Direction

I developed a cohesive campaign identity that positioned Alana as a professional and approachable candidate.

The branding incorporated strong visual elements to create recognition across campaign materials while introducing softer design touches to reflect Alana’s personality and connection with the community.

The result was a contemporary campaign style that felt polished and memorable while remaining authentic to who Alana was as a candidate.

The identity was then applied across campaign materials to create a consistent and professional presence throughout the election period.

Outcome

The campaign branding provided Alana with a strong visual foundation as she entered the political landscape for the first time, helping her present herself with confidence and credibility alongside more established candidates.

This project highlighted the power of personal branding beyond traditional business contexts. Whether building a company, launching a product or stepping into public leadership, the fundamentals remain the same: understand the person, identify what makes them unique and create a brand that helps others connect with their story.

Reflection

I loved the challenge of creating something that felt different from the typical political campaign aesthetic. Alana had a genuine connection to Belmont and a clear passion for serving her community, so the goal was never to create a “politician brand”. It was about creating a brand that allowed people to see the person behind the campaign.
